The tester does what it's supposed to do. The tester generates an audio tone when the positive and negative test leads have an open condition. When the tester Leeds make contact with each other the audio tone switches off. It's the reverse of a continuity tester with an audible tone. Warning, do not allow the positive and negative leads to make contact with a power source such as 12 volts DC or any other power source, because damage will occur.
